Worn Compressor

The compressor is the central part of your AC system. It works as a pump to push refrigerant through the AC to remove water from the air and then chill it. It’s a relatively hardy component, but it can wear out with time, and a worn compressor will pump slower than it previously did. This slowdown can prevent the air from cooling sufficiently before it’s blown into your cabin.

If your AC only blows cold air when you hit the gas, your compressor is probably damaged. The compressor is connected to the compressor pulley, which spins as the serpentine belt passes over it, and this powers the compressor. When you speed up, the belt moves faster, causing the pulley to spin faster and forcing the worn compressor to work harder and supply cold air. Once we replace the compressor, your AC will produce cold air on demand.

Musty Smell

If your AC smells musty and damp when you switch it on for the first time in summer, your AC could have bacteria or mold inside it. Bacteria and mold spores float in the air and are drawn into the air vent. When your AC is switched off over winter, bacteria and mold can breed in the AC ducts, as they’re dark, quiet, and contain moisture.

The smell is unpleasant and a health hazard as these organisms can cause illness or allergies. Our technicians can quickly fix this problem by adding an antibacterial and anti-mold cleaning solution to the AC. We then crank up the AC, allowing the cleaning solution to blow throughout the system and remove the bacteria or mold.

Noisy AC

Rustling, grinding, rattling, or screeching noises from the AC are signs of trouble. Rustling or rattling noises are usually caused by leaves or other tiny items drawn in with the air. This is one of the easiest issues to fix, as we’ll remove them from the system. Metallic rattling noises can also mean a loose component, and we’ll check your AC, find the component, and tighten or replace it.

A worn or damaged belt is usually the cause of screeching noises, and we’ll examine the belts and replace any damaged ones. Grinding noises could mean a lack of lubrication or a broken component, like compressor bearings. We’ll find the problem, and your AC will be silent again.
